Burundi: what a jewel in the heart of Africa!! Perfect for growing coffee beans with its volcanic soils and elevations between 1,720 and 1,900 meters above sea level.
The Burundi coffee industry began back in the 1930s when the Belgians gave them Arabica coffee plants. Since the beginning, Burundi’s struggled with political instability, decolonization, a civil war and genocides. Originally, the Burundi government controlled the coffee industry, focusing on quantity instead on quality, luckily, in the past few years, the Country freed the coffee industry from the government, giving back to local farmers the power to grow at its best this amazing coffee.
Produced by numerous small farm holders of the Tangara commune in Ngozi, one of the Burundi’s 18 provinces, fully washed, double fermented, sun dried on raised beds for a period of 15-20 days, this 100% Red Burbon variety coffee has a nice lemon zest and raisiny aroma. It has a pleasant mouthfeel with notes of dried apricot, cherry and slight lemon.
The acidity is good and the body is medium.
